Canon Edward O'Connell, Parish Priest

Canon Edward O’Connell was born in Cork City, Ireland on 10th

September 1948, the youngest of the four children of Edward and

Eileen O’Connell.

He was educated at the Greenmount National School, affectionately

known as the ‘College on the Hill’, Colaiste Chriost Ri Secondary

School and University College, Cork.

He entered St. John’s College, Waterford, where he studied for the

Priesthood and was ordained in Trinity Cathedral, Waterford on 1st

June 1980. He celebrated his first Mass at La Retraite Convent,

College Road, Cork.

Canon Eddie served in the Archdiocese of Cardiff at St. Theresa’s in

Port Talbot, St. Helen’s in Barry and St. Francis in Ely. He was

appointed Parish Priest of St. Anne’s in Malpas, Newport in October

1986 and subsequently at The Immaculate Conception in Treorchy and

St. John Lloyd’s in Trowbridge, Cardiff.

He has been Parish Priest of St. Teilo’s since 1999 and of St. Teilo’s

with Our Lady of Lourdes since 2005.
