Remembrance Sunday
Today is Remembrance Sunday. The 10am Mass will be a Requiem Mass to pray for those who have died in war. Canon will be taking part in the Act of Remembrance at the Whitchurch War Memorial at 10.45am. 10am Mass will be a little shorter than usual to enable Canon and any parishioners to attend the Act of Remembrance.

Today we begin the season of Advent, the start of the new Liturgical Year. The Church wishes not only to indicate the beginning of a period but the beginning of a renewed commitment to the faith by all of us who follow Christ, the Lord. We are encouraged to use this time as a prayerful preparation for the birth of Christ in our hearts. This season is an opportunity to make Christmas 2025 a worthy celebration of the Lord’s birth, as we welcome Him anew into our hearts.

We are asking for donations of Christmas puddings, biscuits/cakes, chocolates/sweets, tinned ham/salmon, tea/coffee, jam/marmalade, chutney/pickled onions etc. Please place your donation in the boxes at the back of each Church no later than Sunday, December 14th . Please do not donate any perishable items.

This pocket-size booklet of prayers and reflections for Advent and Christmas is now available at the back of the Church, ready for the start of Advent. Archbishop Mark O’Toole has written a foreword to the booklet and recommends it as an aid to prayer. Why not sit quietly with Walk with Me for a few minutes each day? Walk with Me costs £1 per copy, the money can be put in the Piety Stall box at the back of the Church or by selecting Piety Stall on the electronic donation machine.

The annual Requiem Mass for the Clergy of the Archdiocese will be celebrated by Archbishop O’Toole and the Archdiocesan Clergy on Wednesday 26th November at 11.00am at All Hallows Church, Miskin. We are all encouraged to go along to pray for those deceased priests who have served us so faithfully over the years.
