Walk with Me – Lent 2024

The Lenten ‘Walk with Me’ booklets are available at the back of both churches. They are £1 each. If you do not have the money with you, please take a book and drop the amount into the collection in future weeks.

Archbishop Mark O’Toole has written a forward to the booklet and recommends it as an aid to prayer. In his introduction we read: “This year we celebrate Lent within the context of the Year of Prayer, a year of preparation for the Jubilee Year, entitled Pilgrims of Hope. We are asked to make the Lord’s Prayer a particular focus, deepening our understanding of and devotion to it. This is what we do on our Walk With Me journey through Lent… The Lord’s Prayer reminds us of that wonderful truth that we are children of God, loved by our Father in Heaven, and thus we enter into Jesus’ own relationship with His Father. God is our Father Who loves us more than we can imagine, and Who comes to search for us lost sheep, and draws us back to Him through the Death and Resurrection of His Son… What better way of living Lent than by truly entering into this prayer more deeply.?”

This weekend there will be the annual retiring collection for the Archdiocesan Sick and Retired Clergy Fund. The fund makes a vital contribution to the cost of providing our priests with a secure and dignified retirement. Donating is one way in which we can simply say ‘thank you’ for their years of service. You can also donate to the fund using a debit or credit card at the Electronic Donation Station at the back of St. Teilo’s or online at https://donate.mydona.com/st-teilo-our-lady-of-lourdes

Today we begin the season of Advent, the start of the new Liturgical Year. The Church wishes not only to indicate the beginning of a period but the beginning of a renewed commitment to the faith by all of us who follow Christ, the Lord. We are encouraged to use this time as a prayerful preparation for the birth of Christ in our hearts. This season is an opportunity to make Christmas 2025 a worthy celebration of the Lord’s birth, as we welcome Him anew into our hearts.
