The fourth of our Parish Advent Sessions takes place on
Wednesday 20th Dec at 7pm. All are welcome to come to the session as we renew ourselves and our faith in preparation to celebrate the great feast of the birth of the Lord Jesus. The fourth session, this Wednesday, is entitled: The Bible.

On Tuesday we celebrate the great Solemnity of the Epiphany, a Holiday of Obligation. Masses on Tuesday will be at 10am at St. Teilo’s and 6pm at Our Lady of Lourdes. On this feast day, the Church celebrates the shining forth of Jesus to the world. The word “Epiphany” means “manifestation” or “showing forth.” Historically, several moments in Christ’s early life and ministry have been celebrated as “epiphanies,” including His birth in Bethlehem, the visit of the Magi, His baptism by John, and His first miracle at Cana. On this day the Liturgy of the Church focuses on the visit of the Magi. As we celebrate the coming of the Magi, may we bring ourselves, our hearts, and lay them before the Lord Jesus, that He can use them as He wills. We are to be gifts of faithful service to Him.

Many thanks also to the volunteers who did such a great deal of work to enable us to celebrate Christmas in style this year. Much of the work is done quietly while no one else is around: the Crib prepared, the brasses polished, the flowers arranged and the rest of the Church cleaned and decorated. None of these things happen by themselves. They take time and effort and I would like to thank all those, who gave of their time to do this work for the benefit of all of us who worship in the parish. Thanks too to the Altar Servers, Readers, Musicians and other Ministers of the Mass who enabled us to have a wonderful celebration of the Birth of the Lord. I would like to thank all of you who have ministered in any way, especially those whom I have forgotten to mention above. Canon John

Rest in Peace Please pray for the repose of the souls of Beryl Donovon, whose daughter Diane Beer is a regular attendee at St. Teilo’s, Mary Smith, who lived in Rhiwbina and was a longtime attendee at St. Teilo’s until moving to a nursing home in Christ the King Parish and Sean Daughton, brother of Rita – all of whom have died recently. Mrs. Donovon’s Funeral Mass will take place at St. Teilo’s on Wednesday, January 14th at 10am, Mary Smith’s Funeral Mass will take place at Christ the King Church on Monday, January 19th at 1.30pm. Mr. Daughton’s funeral details will be announced when available. The joy that fills the Church at the birth of Jesus is celebrated throughout the Christmas season. The Church, as a continuation of the Christmas Feast, celebrates the Octave of Christmas, that is, the eight days between Christmas and New Year’s Day as a special celebration, with each day celebrated with prayer based on the Angels’ message to the Shepherds, the Gloria. Unlike our society, which seems to see December 25th as the end of the Christmas season, for us, December 25th is the beginning of Christmastime. These days between Christmas and New Year see many people taking leave, which is a great opportunity to spend more time with the Lord and come to a Christmas Octave Mass. During this week, we will celebrate the feasts of St. Stephen on the 26th , St. John the Apostle on the 27th and the Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph next Sunday. This all culminates in the celebration of Mary, the Mother of God, on New Year’s Day.
